FCCLA is a student led organization that focuses on community, family, and careers. Many students pour their hearts out to better themselves and their community by investing time into local projects, or participating in life skill competitions. This organization is led by Mrs. Dyer, and has been a driving force for student involvement and teaching lessons that young teenagers are able to apply to their lives when entering the real world.
Many events over the years have directly impacted the community. These include: Choose Joy Color Run, Breakfast with Santa, sock drives, delivering blankets to the elderly, and haunted trails. Mrs. Dyer and her officer team believe in working from a spirit of servanthood, and aim to leave the community better than it initially was.
The Student Spotlight crew had the honor of interviewing an assortment of officers and members to provide insight to the extent in which the program impacts each person individually and the people around them. Each event that FCCLA puts on is always accompanied by many hours of preparation and hard work. The unseen efforts the officer team endures is what provides each event to run smoothly and reach its maximum potential. The Student Spotlight crew was amazed to hear how important each officer role was and how each event was prepared for. Pottsboro High School would not be as positive of a place or have as large of an impact as it has had if it was not for FCCLA.
